AROUND OUR PARISH

In January, St. Michael’s will be holding a couple of fundraising events for the new Parish Center.

Wednesday, January 15th and Tuesday, January 28th

have been scheduled with a couple of local restaurants who have graciously agreed to donate

a portion of the food proceeds on these days in

support of our fundraising efforts.

We will be providing coupons for

parishioners to distribute to friends and relatives

to use on these days.

Wall of Giving

The Parents for Religious Education, (PRE), and students who attend St. Michael’s parish

have prepared a “Wall of Giving” fundraiser to raise money for the new Parish Center.

The wall can be found in the back of the church off on the left as you enter.

With a little support from a lot of people, (you and me), we all can make this a reality!

Please give generously!

Save the Date

The Catechist Christmas Party will be held on Wednesday, January 8th following 5:30 p.m. confessions and 6 p.m. Mass.

The staff Christmas party will be held at Stephano’s on Jan. 10th at 6:30 p.m.

Did you know?

The word “epiphany” comes from the Greek epiphainen, a verb that means "to shine upon," "to manifest," or “to make known.” Thus, the feast of the Epiphany celebrates the many ways that Christ has made Himself known to the world, mainly the three events that manifested the mission and divinity of Christ:  the visit of the Magi (Matthew 2:1-12), the baptism of Jesus (Mark 1:9-11), and the miracle at Cana (John 2:1-11).

THANK YOU

Thank you to all the St. Michael's Parish family and friends for making my craft show in church on Dec. 21-22 a success.  I appreciate all of you for supporting the idea I had to have a craft show in church and have all the money donated go to the Parish Hall Fund.  Thanks also for all the comments and encouragement I received from doing this craft fair.

Thanks goes to Father Jake for his encouragement and support in this endeavor.

Retreat for Catechists

St. Michael’s and St. Isidore’s will be holding a retreat for our catechists (those who teach our youth, work with the youth group and CYO, sacrament prep and adult formation) on January 11th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Marysdale. Luminous Mysteries will be facilitating the retreat, so it will be a great time to renew and reignite yourself for your ministry in the new year. Anyone who has been thinking about becoming involved with youth or adult formation is also invited.

Even if you aren’t sure yet, come and take some quality time with God to discern if you are being called. Please let Deacon Scott, Alison Garcia, Ronda Fabiano or Sara Diaw know if you plan to attend by January 5th so we can have a count for food and material.

PARENT CORNER

As stated last week, we will focus on the Corporal Works of Mercy this week which help us to be more Christ-like to others! A lot of these suggestions take very little time, but they can also grow into bigger opportunities if you get your family involved.

  1. Feed the hungry- As a family, volunteer to serve dinner at the Path Center. Our parish takes a turn on Monday nights. Watch the bulletin for our Monday. Make a meal for a family going through a rough time. Don’t know anyone? Ask other parishioners if they know someone who needs help. Bring food to donate to the food pantry when we have a Children’s Liturgy Mass.
  2. Give drink to the thirsty- Donate cases of bottled water to the Path Center, bring one at Children’s Liturgy Mass to donate to the food pantry. Donate to a charitable organization that digs wells in an impoverished country.
  3. Clothe the naked- Clean out those closets and donate to a family who loses their house to a fire, take them to Goodwill or The Hope Chest here in town.
  4. Visit the imprisoned- If you can’t physically visit, send encouraging letters to area jails and CCNO. Advice: do not mention names or our parish. You can write on the back for it to go to an inmate who needs encouragement.
  5. Shelter the homeless- Donate to the Path Center or Ravens in town. Call and ask what they are needing which could include money, furniture, or clothing. Volunteer to help!
  6. Visit the sick-If you have thought of becoming a Eucharistic Minister to the shut-ins of our parish, now is the time! That 1-2 hours once a month can really strengthen the faith of those who cannot get here. It is also a great experience to do as a family.
  7. Bury the dead- Help the grieving family any way you can. Pray the Rosary at the memorial service or before the funeral, learn to serve at the Mass, prepare a dish for the funeral dinner, or send a sympathy card.

Retreat for those separated/divorced

We are pleased and excited to announce that St. Michael's will be hosting a Separated/Divorced Retreat on March 14, 2020.  Please help us prepare for this extraordinary event by sharing this information with family, friends, co-workers and neighbors. Your help to bring healing to the hurting is greatly appreciated.

We continue to hold our 12-week video discussion group for Separated/Divorce on Saturdays at 4:30 here at the church. Mass intentions are another way to increase our parish's empathy, (defined as attitude, and behavior).

Our next Mass is Saturday, January 11th at 6:30 p.m.  A potluck in the church basement will follow this Mass and we welcome anyone wanting to work through emotional upheavals.  We offer personal healing while serving up hope in an atmosphere of God's love. Please continue to keep the separated and divorced in your daily prayers. It is an act of Mercy.

Please contact Patty (419-906-1972) or Big Al (419-576-7731) if you would like to know more about this ministry.
