Attention all Parishioners:

Whenever a county/city within the Diocese of Toledo is placed under a Level 3 Snow Emergency, during which all roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel, the Catholic Churches within that geographic region will cancel the scheduled Saturday Vigil, Sunday, or Holy Day Masses. Roman Catholics in that region, therefore, are dispensed from the obligation to attend Mass. If Masses are cancelled, Catholics are encouraged to participate in Holy Mass via television, radio, or internet, making a spiritual Communion. When Mass is cancelled, all other diocesan, parish, or school events in that geographic region are also cancelled.

PLEASE NOTE - FR. BOB’S VACATION

For the next 12 days, Monday, January 15, 2018 through Friday, January 26, 2018, I will be taking some time for a winter vacation. Please welcome Fr. John Fisher, a visiting priest who will be speaking on behalf of the poor through Cross Catholic Outreach at all the weekend Masses on January 20 – 21, 2018.

In case of emergency while I am on vacation, please contact one of the area priests including:

Fr. Fred Duschl (419-272-2475) or

Fr. John Stites (419-345-5999).

Also Ronda Fabiano at the CCD office (419-497-3122) would be happy to assist you.

Please keep me in your prayers – as I will for you also!!

  Notice:

Father John P. Fischer of Cross Catholic Outreach will be visiting our parish next weekend to speak at all the Masses on behalf of the poor in developing countries. This ministry was founded to create a meaningful link between parishes in America and the priests and nuns working in the Church overseas in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Central and South America.

Plenary Indulgence Available – March for Life

By special grant of our Holy Father, Pope Francis, Cardinal Mauro Piacenza, the Major Penitentiary of the Catholic Church, has informed the Bishops of the United States that a plenary indulgence can be obtained by the Christian faithful by taking part in the sacred celebrations of the 2018 March for Life (18-19 January 2018).  Those that are unable to attend or participate in the March for Life due to age, sickness, or other grave reason, may also obtain the plenary Indulgence, provided that they have the disposition of detachment from any kind of sin and have the intention of fulfilling, as soon as they are able, the three customary conditions of the Indulgence if they spiritually unite themselves to the sacred events of the March for Life, and also having offered prayers and their sufferings or the ailments of their own life to the merciful God.”

The three customary conditions for receiving the plenary indulgence include: sacramental Confession, Eucharistic Communion, and prayers for the intentions of Pope Francis.

The Most Unjust Situation

Critics of the pro-life movement often say that pro-lifers are too concerned with one social issue. Similarly, political commentators complain that pro-lifers are obsessed with just one political issue.
However, as Catholics, we must never forget three vitally important facts:
(1). All human beings are born "in the image and likeness of Christ" and therefore have innate and invaluable human dignity.
(2). Every child created by God is a tremendous gift from God. Moreover, God has a purpose for each and every one of us...and He does not make mistakes!
(3). The scale of the abortion issue is simply overwhelming. Each day in America, around 3,500 innocent babies are deprived of their right to life.

Pope John Paul II best summed up why abortion is so wrong when he said, "It is difficult to imagine a more unjust situation and it is very difficult to speak of obsession where we are dealing with a fundamental imperative of every good conscience---the defense of the right to life of an innocent and defenseless human being"

Right to Life Signature Ad Campaign

Very sincere thanks to all who donated to the Right to Life Signature Ad Campaign on the weekend of January 7, 2018.  St. Isidore Church collected $282.00 with 50 signatures and St. Michael’s Ridge donated $142.00 with 31 signatures.  Both parishes did a fine job in supporting this campaign.  Your names will be in a full-page Ad in the Defiance Crescent-News and the Napoleon Northwest Signal newspapers around January 22, 2017, in support of life. May God bless you for your support of this great cause!

Assume you can't afford private school tuition? LOOK AGAIN.

Have you always wanted to give your child a Catholic Education? Have you heard about the amazing things taking place through The Leader in Me program at Holy Cross? But you assumed you couldn't afford tuition?

Due to the generosity of our parishes and private donors, the cost to educate at HCCS is currently discounted 70%. The current average monthly cost is $150 before scholarships are applied.  There are many scholarship programs available that reduce this cost significantly. This is FREE money and many families are eligible for a fully-paid tuition scholarship.

If you have not qualified in past years, you may qualify this year with new guidelines. We highly encourage you to review available funding and apply for all potential scholarship funding. A large percentage of families are eligible to receive some scholarship through local school district tax-funded programs. Even though your child attends a private school, you are entitled to some of the services your school tax dollars provide.

Kathy Shrader, our school's Director of Finance, can assist you in finding all of the scholarship discounts you are eligible for in the upcoming school year. Mrs. Shrader is a tax expert by profession and has decades of experience in financial management. We are blessed to have her on staff!

Want to learn more?  Set up a confidential, no-obligation meeting with Mrs. Shrader to have your questions answered. We want to help make tuition as affordable as possible for your family.

Call the school office at 419-740-2021 to schedule a meeting with Mrs. Shrader or email school secretary Mrs. Carr at jcarr@defianceholycross.org to set up an appointment to learn more.

A Mid-Winter Retreat weekend for Women and Men will be held February 9-11, 2018.  The theme of the retreat will be “Mysticism – The Heartbeat of God.”  We all have mystical experiences, but we’re not all mystics.  How can we learn how to live a mystically driven life?  We will explore this topic, gleaning some insights from Fr. Ron Rolheiser, OMI and from the “mystical” gospel of John.

The Retreat will be led by Father Marty Nassr, a senior status priest of the Diocese.  The retreat starts early Friday evening February 9 and ends with a closing late morning Mass on Sunday, February 11.  For more information about this retreat please see Our Lady of Consolation Retreat House web site at www.olcshrine.com and click on RETREAT or call for a brochure.  The cost for the weekend will be $150.00 for overnight guests and $95.00 for commuters, which includes 4 hot meals and your program materials.  Call Brother Randy for info at 419-396-7970 or email at retreats@olcshrine.com

The Northwest Ohio Men’s Fellowship Father / Son Breakfast is Saturday Jan. 27th at St. John Catholic Church, Defiance.  All area Men and Women please join us for this special event to share the love of Christ to unify all people of faith in our area.  Guest speaker Rex Stump, the Northwest Ohio Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Area Director will share about 3Demensional Leadership.  How do we motivate others, build teamwork, and do things with excellence.   Men, please invite your sons, grandsons or any other important family member or friend in your life to join us for this special presentation.  We will share great insights, music, breakfast, and Christian brotherhood.  Coffee & Donuts 7:30 am – Breakfast & Program 8:00 am.  For more information please call George Westrick 419-784-3975.

Catholic Questions + Catholic Answers will meet on Thursday 18 January 2018 in the St. Matthew Room immediately after the 6:30 Mass.  It has been suggested that, if there is any time after questions, that we would learn about the Doctors of the Church.  This week we could look at St. Athanasius 296-373.
