A Lenten Bible Study Offering for our St. Michael Church

“A Biblical Walk through the Mass”

by Edward Sri

As Catholics, the Mass is the center of our Faith. We celebrate it every
day. We know all the responses. We know all the gestures.

But do we know what it all means?

In A Biblical Walk through the Mass, Dr. Edward Sri
takes us on a unique tour of the Liturgy.
We will explore the biblical roots of the words and gestures we experience
in the Liturgy and learn their profound significance.

This Study will be held on Sunday evenings beginning February 18th and will continue through Lent.

Studies will begin at 6:30pm and will be in the Church basement.
To sign up call Chris Newton at 419-428-4585 for planning purposes.

Thank you and may the Peace of the Risen Lord be with you Always!

The ministries of the Diocese of Toledo affect hundreds of thousands of lives each year. Traditionally the participation in the Annual Catholic Appeal has fallen short of the necessary financial support needed to provide support to ensure impactful ministries. This year, the goal is $2.8 million with a secondary goal of increasing parishioner participation.

So today, I would like to take a few minutes to share the work the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal is doing for our Diocese of Toledo.

Did you know that when an engaged couple receives education and counseling in preparation for marriage, the Appeal is at work? When a catechist receives training to teach religious education, the Appeal is at work. When a baby’s life is saved from abortion or a homeless person receives a warm bed and a meal, the Appeal is at work. These are examples of ministries at work every day throughout the Diocese of Toledo supported by your donations to the Annual Catholic Appeal. You know many of them—Helping Hands of St. Louis, La Posada Emergency Family Shelter, H.O.P.E. Food Pantry, Young Adult and Campus Ministry, and support for those men who have been called to the Priesthood.

It is your donation that makes possible the continuation of these ministries. If you have already made a pledge to the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal, I thank you for answering the call to show mercy to others.

If you have not yet made a pledge, I would like to remind you of the theme for this year—Giving With Faith, Hope and Love. “Evangelize the poor; this is the mission of Jesus; this is also the mission of the Church, and of all baptized in the church.” (Pope Francis Angelus address 1-24-16). Being Catholic is much more than being a member of a parish and going to Mass on weekends—it is about living our faith and following Jesus. I have seen some of the amazing ways that our Diocese has reached out to help those in greatest need—that is what it means to be Catholic.

If you have never pledged before, a pledge of $1 for each day of the year, $365, or $1 for each week of the year, $52, would go a long way toward helping us to serve the people throughout our diocese. Any gift you can give will be truly appreciated. No amount is too small.

There are pledge envelopes and pencils available at the end of each pew. Please use the envelopes provided to you to make your donation or pledge today.

Please take a moment to consider this question. Could you sacrifice the price of a soft drink a day or a cup of coffee a week to further the work of the Church and serve those in need? Those dollars would go a long way to benefit the Catholic community in our Diocese.

Countless lives are touched by every contribution to the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal. Children, seminary students, the sick and aged, the needy—they all depend on our generosity. Faith, hope and love come alive through the Annual Catholic Appeal, which in turn fosters the Holy Disciples, Holy Families and Holy Vocations. Thank you for pledging today to help meet our parish goal of $9,000   and assure the continuation of these programs and services. For more information on ministries funded by the appeal visit: www.Toledodiocese.org/ACA.

“Looking for someone (or “a special person”), to take over and run the Annual Spring Craft Show.

I stepped in temporarily as a chairman and it has now been over 5 years!

My schedule at this time of year has become very busy and I need to look for a replacement.

There is an awesome support team in place to help with the kitchen, bake sale and activities of the day!

I am willing to spend time with anyone who feels the calling to support this great fundraiser for the Altar & Rosary Society.

Please give this your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely, Sandy Wagner

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!  The sixth grade CCD class would like to thank our parish community for participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring!  Together we collected many bags of non-perishable food items and $159!  The class donated the collection to St. Mary’s Food Pantry in Defiance.   Since 1990 when the Souper Bowl of Caring began, young people have been leading the charge and inspiring others to collect dollars and food; changing the nation's largest weekend of football into a large weekend of caring.

Happy Birthday!

Chris Maxwell           February 14th

Next Northwest Ohio Men’s Fellowship Breakfast will be held Saturday Feb. 24th at St. John’s Catholic Church, Defiance. We are very excited to have Ann and Darrell Branham join us to share their Spiritual experiences and their love of Christ through music. This will be an uplifting sharing of how their personal relationship with Christ has grown and led them to share this overwhelming revelation of Christs love with others. God has inspired them to use the gift of Gospel music by sharing this music at different senior facilities and events, bringing back great memories and lifting up praise to God.  Come and join us as they lead us in some great Gospel music that will warm your heart. Hear how God has walked with them on their spiritual journey. We feel the greatest message they have to share is how God takes ordinary people and moves them to minister in simple ways to bring joy and his presence in our hearts. We encourage all mem/women/families from all Faiths’ to join us to share fellowship as brothers and sisters in Christ. Be part of this ecumenical effort to build unity and support for each other in our community. Enjoy a great breakfast. Coffee/Fellowship: 7:30a – Breakfast/Program: 8 00a. For more information call George Westrick 419-784-3975 or email grwestrick@embarqmail.com
