“AROUND OUR PARISH”
Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
My dear friends in Christ,
This past Sunday, I was officially installed as Pastor of St. Isidore and St Michael the Archangel parishes. Bishop Thomas came to preside at the mass. From the presentation of church keys at the entrance door, through the renewal of my promises made at ordination, and welcome from parishioners, the Rite of Installation was a powerful experience. I thank Bishop Thomas, Dan Demski the liturgy coordinator, Deacon Scott, staff, choir, servers, and volunteers, all who worked together to make this a beautiful liturgy. It was wonderful to have so many at Mass.
It is only a few weeks before school starts. Parents and students from preschool to college are preparing for their new school year. The summer weather is at its peak, inviting us outdoors to enjoy the gardens, summer activities, tennis or a round of golf!
The 117th St Michael the archangel parish annual festival is on Sunday, August 8th and is one of the highlights of the summer for our parish. Delicious meals will be available. Don’t miss them.
Elijah, in the Old Testament reading today, is on a long journey through the desert, when he despairs and gives up, prays to the Lord to take him. Instead, an angel comes and nudges him, feeds him a meal- not once, but twice- and Elijah is finally able to finish his journey to the mountain of God. Earthly food will only fuel us a little while, but Jesus offers us himself, “the bread come down from heaven.” The bread of Life will sustain us through the trails of our earthly journey and into eternal life. Participating in the Eucharist daily, or as often as possible keeps us strengthened for this journey of life.
I continue to keep all of you in my prayers and ask that you pray for me.
Blessing upon you always!
Fr. Melwin Dsouza SAC

To the Knights of Columbus who escorted the Bishop in procession and recession

To anyone who may have been inadvertently omitted, a very big Thank You!
Most importantly to God our Father who has blessed St Michael’s many times by providing us with wonderful, holy priests and now once again with our new pastor Fr. Melwin Dsouza!!
Thank you, Jesus! We will Honor, Respect and Obey our new pastor!

faith: the next generation – pass it on!
Boldly go where many have gone before and help pass on the Good News of Jesus Christ and our Catholic faith! This fall, over 100 children and young people, preschool through grade 12, will be ready to learn more about Jesus and our Catholic religion. At this time, over 40 of these children and young people have no catechist to teach them. You can help by becoming a catechist for Faith Formation. As you nurture the faith of our young, you will learn and grow as well! As one long-time catechist put it, “I learn so much from the children!” Another one said, “I think I learn more from the children than they learn from me.” We provide you with training, materials, and support. Classes are on Sundays after Mass and begin September 19. If interested or for more information, contact Mary Jo Beilharz at 419-783-1549 or Mindy Smith at 419-980-1157.
Here are our current catechists and the open positions:
