In January, St. Michael’s will be holding a couple of fundraising events for the new Parish Center.

Wednesday, January 15th and Tuesday, January 28th

have been scheduled with a couple of local restaurants who have graciously agreed to donate

a portion of the food proceeds on these days in

support of our fundraising efforts.

We will be providing coupons for

parishioners to distribute to friends and relatives

to use on these days.

Wall of Giving

The Parents for Religious Education, (PRE), and students who attend St. Michael’s parish

have prepared a “Wall of Giving” fundraiser to raise money for the new Parish Center.

The wall can be found in the back of the church off on the left as you enter.

With a little support from a lot of people, (you and me), we all can make this a reality!

Please give generously!

THANK YOU

Thank you to all St. Michael’s parishioners who participated in this year’s Giving Tree. All your gifts were gratefully received by all recipients. God bless you all and thanks again. The packages were beautiful!

On December 21st and 22nd there were ornaments, scarves, wreaths, towels and many more items provided by Janet Wagner.  All proceeds went towards the St. Michael's Church Parish Center. We are very grateful to Janet for sharing her God given talents and helping others with their Christmas shopping.

Retreat for Catechists

St. Michael’s and St. Isidore’s will be holding a retreat for our catechists (those who teach our youth, work with the youth group and CYO, sacrament prep and adult formation) on January 11th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Marysdale. Luminous Mysteries will be facilitating the retreat, so it will be a great time to renew and reignite yourself for your ministry in the new year. Anyone who has been thinking about becoming involved with youth or adult formation is also invited.

Even if you aren’t sure yet, come and take some quality time with God to discern if you are being called. Please let Deacon Scott, Alison Garcia, Ronda Fabiano or Sara Diaw know if you plan to attend by January 5th so we can have a count for food and material.

PARENT CORNER

Being a follower of Jesus and living in a close relationship with Him naturally leads to helping others. Not only do we gain a sense of purpose, but knowing that any little thing we do in service to another person can make their day - even change their life - can only make our own faith stronger.

How do we teach our children to do that part of discipleship? Easy! The Catholic Church has not one, but two lists to help us! They are the Spiritual Works of Mercy and the Corporal Works of Mercy. This week we will focus on the Spiritual Works. Here they are with some simple suggestions on how to do them. It does not have to be hard to help someone in this area of their life!

  1. Admonish the sinner- even though it sounds like we are “punishing” someone, this Work of Mercy is about explaining to someone in a loving way a mistake they have made that turned into them committing a sin. A friend or loved one may tell you about an incident where they got in trouble and they do not see what they did something wrong or that it hurt someone. Talk them through the situation and help them to see how their actions caused the end result.

2.      Instruct the ignorant- if a friend or family member attends Mass, have your child walk them through the Missalette to help them know what is going on. After Mass, ask if they have any questions. Be sure to educate yourself on why we do the things we do. The only thing that can erase ignorance is education!

3.      Counsel the doubtful- it is okay to question our faith and have times of doubt in our lives, especially when something bad happens.  Give them biblical examples of those situations to show them they are not the only one who has ever backpedaled in their faith. Don’t just offer a parish program to check out, go with them!

4.      Comfort the sorrowful- send a card to someone who has recently lost a loved one. Just listen as they talk about what they are going through. Take a meal to a family going through a stressful or sad situation. These little things really make a difference.

5.      Bear wrongs patiently- most of our hurts from others are unintentional. Turning it into an argument to defend yourself is rarely the right way to handle it. Step away from the situation, pray about it and for them, and let God handle it from there. Saying the Our Father for them is a great tool! Just plug their name in…., “Fred’s Father, who are in heaven, hallowed be the name…”

6.      Forgive all injuries- How many times do we need to forgive someone for hurting us the same way? “Seventy times seven” was Jesus’s answer. It really means every time. Keep in mind that forgiveness is all about you releasing the hurt, not about forgetting what has happened.

7.      Pray for the living and the dead- Go to the Rosary service when someone has passed away, whether you were close to them or it is someone a friend or family member was close to. You can request a Mass intention for someone going through a hard time or for someone who has passed away. Ask someone if there is anything you can pray for them about.
