St. Michael Parish Religious Formation Program

DIRECTORS

Father Joe Steinbauer

Acting Director of Religious Education

Mary Jo Beilharz

Dear Parents,

Please read through carefully because there is a lot of new information!

REGISTRATION & TUITION: Please register any NEW students to the program. Registration forms are on the bulletin board in the entrance to church. Tuition for Religious Education classes is $25.00 per student for the year (for up to three in the same family – the fourth child or more are free). This covers the cost of their books, PLEASE PAY PROMPTLY. The tuition that goes unpaid is a great expense to our church. Please make your child’s attendance a priority. Our catechists work hard to prepare lessons and ready materials for each class. We are blessed to be able to have our classes in person at this time.

With the current situation involving COVID-19, we will be taking every precaution available in regards to masks, distancing, cleaning, and plans for what we will do in the event of another lockdown. Hopefully we will have more notice ahead of time than what we had in March. Please know that your parish supports you 100% if you choose to home school your child for Religious Education. We will provide packets for you to go over with your child and our catechists will keep in touch with you throughout the year to help you stay on track. If you choose this option, it is expected to be taken as seriously as their regular school classes.

PLEASE consider teaching! We also need subs! Commissioning of catechists will take place Sunday, Oct. 4 during mass. This year’s catechists are:

o 1st Grade – Christie Pace

o 2nd Grade – Kent & Mary Jo Beilharz

o 3rd Grade – Nate & Sarah Gerencser

o 4th Grade – Eric May

o 5th Grade – Patti Pahl

o 6th - 7th Grades (combined class) – Amber Flory & Malinda Mekus

o 8th & 9th Grades (Confirmation Class) – George Westrick, Adam Homier, Tracey

Backhaus

o 10th, 11th, 12th Grades (High School) – Kevin & Julie McCann

CONFIRMATION CLASS - started already on September 27. The next class is October 11th and will alternate every other week with a new time of 9:30-11:30. Parents are also invited to attend the following classes: October 25, November 22, December 20, January 3, January 31, February 28, and April 18.

LESSONS - Teachers will give all grades lessons to do at home with their families for the week they are not in class and work must be turned in upon return the following week (this is for accountability). Students will be provided with a zip lock bag of supplies to use during class time. This will eliminate the catechists handing out supplies to each child during class and having to worry about sanitizing these items.

DUE TO SOCIAL DISTANCING, WE WILL NOT HAVE SINGING PRACTICE AFTER MASS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. PLEASE STAY SEATED WITH YOUR CHILD UNTIL THEIR GRADE IS CALLED TO GO TO THEIR CLASS. DISMISSAL ROUTINE: Because of safety concerns, Grades 1-4 will be kept in the pews until a parent can come inside the FRONT entrance of church to meet their children for dismissal at 10:45. This way students can remain socially distanced while waiting for their parents to pick them up. Since Grade 5 will hold class in the Convent, children and WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to leave that area to cross over to church unless they have a note of permission from parents allowing them to be on their own. Thank you for your continued support in keeping the children’s safety as a top priority.

CHILDREN’S LITURGIES will be on October 18, November 15, January 17, February 14, and March 14. WITH THE CURRENT SITUATION WITH COVID-19, ONLY READERS WILL BE NEEDED FOR THESE MASSES.

YOUTH GROUP HELPERS – Mary Rose and Barb Weber. Please contact Mary if you are willing to volunteer with the youth group. We have a great group of children and we need the parents to help keep them involved with church sponsored activities. All incoming 7th Graders through Seniors are considered to be a part of our Youth Group.

IN THE EVENT OF ANOTHER SHUTDOWN, we will be utilizing the Formed.org website as a resource for our families to continue to keep up with their children’s Religious Education. We will send out info on videos to watch together as a family that cover specific themes each week when we are not able to meet in person. It is a great resource to learn more about our faith outside of using it for this reason. Just go to Formed.org to sign up! Be sure to click on the link that you are a parishioner and choose St. Isidore’s as your parish. They only allow one account per priest, so we are combined under St. Isidore’s name. Feel free to contact your child’s catechist with any questions you may have about this. Please watch the Bulletin, “Religious Formation Calendar” or our Parish website (http://www.saintmichaelridge.org/) and our Facebook page for any schedule changes, cancellations, or updates.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call the rectory office at 419-497-2161. May God’s love and blessing be upon us all as, together – parents, children, young people, catechists, helpers – as we continue our faith journey and grow in God’s love.

Peace to you and your family!

St. Michael’s/St Isidore’s Religious Education Covid-19 Guidelines

These guidelines are subject to change to due changes to State, County, and/or Diocesan mandates concerning the current pandemic situation.

Scheduled events and gatherings may not take place as usual. Decisions will be made as the class year progresses based on the status of the pandemic situation. We will share those decisions in a timely manner.

We will support families who decide to home school with materials, lesson plans, and ongoing communication in support of their decision. We will go to strictly remote learning in the event of our County going to Level Red or higher and/or our local schools going to remote learning due to the pandemic.

Here are the steps we will take to ensure the safest environment for our students and catechists.

1. Parents are expected to check their child’s temperature and for any symptoms of illness before bringing their child to class. Any child showing symptoms and/or signs of a fever are asked to stay home. The parent needs to contact us and let us know so we can arrange to get them the missed work.

2. Masks will be required for all students and catechists following the State mandate for children attending school.

3. All students and catechists will be required to wash their hands and/or use hand sanitizer before entering a classroom. Hand sanitizer will be made available by the church.

4. Students will be spaced throughout the classrooms to maintain social distancing as much as possible.

5. We will have seating charts and attendance will be taken weekly. Students must sit in their assigned seats.

6. Students will be provided with class supplies (markers, pencils, pens, glue, etc.), which will be kept in the classroom in a zip-lock bag with their name on it. This will eliminate items from being touched by various people and stop the spread of any germs.

7. Each child may bring a water bottle to class. Drinking water will not be provided by water fountains or any large container that would be shared.

8. Classrooms will be supplied with cleaning materials so that each student and catechist will wipe down any area they worked at or sat at.

9. Classes will be dismissed in such a way as to ensure that social distancing will be maintained.

10. Parents are asked to stay in their vehicles during drop-off and pick-up of their child to minimize exposure to students and catechists.

If you have a child or your family is struggling with any physical or emotional difficulties due to the pandemic, please reach out to Alison Garcia, or Deacon Scott.
